Adipex is a diet pill that was prevalent in recent past. These days Phenterminn is widely used as these pills has same weight loss effects but doesn’t have side effects of Adipex. Adipex has been in use for quite a long time but its usefulness is far weighed down by its negative side effects. The main constituent is Phentermine with a content of 37.5mg and is manufactured by Gate Pharmaceuticals.
The approval of Phentermine for use in medication in the year 1957 was soon followed by the introduction of Adipex. The initial trials conducted for its effectiveness resulted in the determination of minimum amount of Phentermine required for medication. The minimum amount was estimated to be 37.5mg. Adipex is an anorectic amphetamine that stimulates the central nervous system and as a result it suppresses the appetite of the person. This is very useful in weight reduction as one can get rid of the habit of binge eating due to suppression of craving for food. But the medication alone is not sufficient and one has combine workouts or exercise into the daily routine so as to achieve the goal of weight reduction.
One of the disturbing facts about Adipex is that since 1957 no research work has been conducted to gauge its effects thus opening a can of questions. Still one cannot ignore the fact that even if the studies have been stopped or no new research work has been done the prevalent prescription is highly effective even today. The working of Adipex can be spread over a few weeks at one stretch and can help individuals in controlling their cravings for food due to the loss of appetite caused due to the amphetamine’s reaction.
The effectiveness of Adipex starts to decline after a few weeks time and this could be a major problem that needs to be taken into consideration before one decides to continue its further intake. Users may feel unhappy due to this sudden and abrupt malfunctioning of Adipex and hence need proper medical counseling before they can decide on future course of action.
The other aspect of Adipex is that it is a highly addictive substance that can have damaging impact on its users. The side effects are excessive weight gain that is in fact just the opposite of what it actually intended to achieve and other related side effects are bad mouth odor, reduction in sexual drives, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, insomnia etc.
In severe cases the causing of rashes, shallowness in breathing and stiffness of chest with swelling of facial organs such as mouth and lips have been reported. In some the occurrence of uncharacteristic behavior with symptoms of chest pain, psychosis, increased heartbeat, tremors etc is not uncommon.
In the final analysis it can be said that the worthiness of Adipex is somewhat debatable and there are far too many side effects considering the fact that it has limited effective time period. So one has to take a final call on using it as a diet control method or totally avoid using it or go for some other alternative medications.
Unfortunately, Adipex and its base formula, which is considered to be part of the amphetamine class, have many adverse effects associated with them. Users of other diet pills such as outlawed Phen-Fen can honestly say that Adipex, or Phentermine, isn’t as medically threatening as Phen-Fen but it still has plenty of bad side effects that should be duly noted by both user and prescriber.
Adipex and similar diet pills with the same chemical formula related to amphetamines will always be linked to increased blood pressure along with various other small but equally threatening situations in the user’s body. The most common system to suffer from the most effects is the cardiovascular system, which does include the heart as many users will end up dealing with palpitations and risk of heart attack especially if the user is not taking the pills as directed.
While Adipex and other similar drugs are considered to be okay on a short term basis, most of the adverse effects make themselves known most when the user is taking the drug over a longer period of time than they were supposed to. At this point it is no longer considered a normal situation involving diet pills, instead, it is technically an addiction that has taken over and needs to be dealt with appropriately.
Addiction to diet pills may sound ridiculous to some but it is a fact that Phentermine, Adipex and other similar drugs are within the amphetamine class, which also means that it they are highly addictive substances. Treatment facilities everywhere are able to take over and help rehabilitate a diet pill addict just as they would anyone with any other type of physical addiction.
Adipex and similar drugs have also been known to affect the intestinal tract as well as the central nervous system and yes, that includes the brain. While the brain effects are moderate and include euphoria, headaches and dizziness, Adipex side effects are mainly associated with a severe level of danger towards the cardiovascular system instead. In the end, one must be careful and make sure to follow directions or use an OTC diet pill such as Phenterminn instead.
I have been on Adipex for 3 months. My doctor and I discussed it in detail before I began the medication and I went through EKG and ultrasound of heart and heart valves. I have spread the medication from May 7, 2010 through today and my last dose is September 24, 2010. I am proud to say that I have lost 41 pounds so far. This medication helped me learn how to eat, what to eat, when to eat and how much to eat. It also made me realize the importance of daily exercise. I walk at least 2.5 miles a day.
Lexi I am with you girl and with me I spent lots and lots of money over 20 yrs to lose weight with no luck, and those had worse side effects than the adipex. I eat well, exercise at least 5 days a week, 45-60 , cardio, weights, yoga, you name it, I’ve done it. Very nervous about it being a “drug” but had no side effects at all. Still being yelled at by my daughter who is a nurse, but when your whole life has been devoted to being healthy and trying to lose the extra 50lbs you are carrying around for forever, you do what you can. Nothing over the counter worked, no supplements, no vitamin mixture/timing….nothing!!! I am now 35lbs lighter (after 7 mths) and never happier. It did stop working after that time so I stopped taking it. They say it will stop working after a certain amount of time so might as well be safe. A few people who knew a few people said that they all gained it back but that those people never took care of themselves in the first place. As it states, you have to combine eating habits and exercise with it and that is how you keep it off. I hope so because this is how I have lived for 20yrs. Good luck to you.

I have seen so many new weight loss methods and drugs come in and out of the market I had no idea truly where to start. I began trolling health supplement stores and asking people around the gym about anything they have tried. Everyone had a different supplement and a different story to go along with it. Some said to use creatine to help build more muscle which will then increase my body’s fat burning abilities while others swore by pure concentrated green tea supplement and other edible solutions so of course I tried them.
After spending so many hours at the gym and taking natural supplements I still wasn’t seeing a good amount of weight loss and I knew I needed something with a lot more power. I started out being more than 75 pounds over a healthy weight so I took matters into my own hands and started looking for a diet pill that could do a lot more for me than dinky little green tea and caffeine pills. I began reading the facts about the most powerful, and most importantly over the counter, weight loss pills that I could get my chubby little hands on.
Many of them came with a bunch of warnings and risks that I just wasn’t willing to deal with because of the danger factor alone. Adipex was a literal godsend. I went over each and every fact about Adipex and have deemed that although insomnia may be an issue for some it hasn’t bothered me one bit. My blood pressure is fight and fat is melting off by the pound!
